Shavkat Mirziyoyev talks with South Korean President over the phone

 On October 6, 2020, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-In.

The head of our state started the conversation with cordially congratulating – on behalf of the multiethnic people of Uzbekistan and his own behalf – President Moon Jae-In and the friendly Korean people on the National Foundation Day and the traditional holiday of Chuseok, expressing warm wishes of peace, wellbeing and prosperity.

The two leaders examined in detail the current state and prospects of bilateral relations of special strategic partnership, and also exchanged views on pressing issues of international politics.

The sides emphasized the importance of continuing active interaction and regular productive dialogue at different levels in order to minimize the consequences of the global spread of coronavirus for the Uzbek-Korean wide-ranging cooperation.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also sincerely thanked his colleague for the practical assistance provided by South Korea in organizing an effective fight against the pandemic, in introducing advanced experience in the prevention and treatment of this disease.

The Presidents agreed to keep with close coordination between the ministries of health and other interested agencies across the board, including on issues of treatment methods and access to vaccines.

Special significance was attached during the conversation to the development of agenda for upcoming summit meetings.

In particular, the parties discussed issues of trade, economic and investment cooperation, those concerning the delivery of favorable conditions for the growth of trade and enhancement of cooperation, including in matters pertaining to legal framework and assistance in promoting business initiatives.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Moon Jae-In urged the governments of the two countries to continue with comprehensive support for 65 current joint projects in the investment, financial, technical and humanitarian cooperation, primarily the socially significant programs in healthcare and education through the Korean International Cooperation Agency and the Economic Development Cooperation Fund.

In addition, coordinated measures will be taken to upsurge the already exceeding $ 4 billion portfolio of promising projects with the participation of leading companies and banking and financial institutions of Uzbekistan and South Korea.

The heads of state reaffirmed their strong commitment to the consolidation of multifaceted relations built on robust bonds of centuries-old friendship as well as to the promotion of full-scale practical interaction.

The leaders’ conversation took place in a traditionally warm, constructive and friendly spirit.
